Norwich Hackspace is a non-profit community group, open to adult men and women, with the following aims:
· To be a community of like-minded people interested in making things
· To have a self-funded, community-run, not-for-profit shared workspace.
· To have shared equipment, tools, materials, skills, experience and support.
· To run activities and sessions where people can learn new things
· To facilitate projects that are hard to undertake as an individual
· To provide access to equipment that is not generally available to individuals
· To have fun and to experiment and learn safely
Our ethos is:
· To share and help each other
· To respect and be considerate to fellow members and their property
· To look after our space
· To bring as much as we take
We have regular practical project sessions as well as access to the space at other times. We are open to membership. A membership subscription is paid monthly by standing order. We ask that you pay what you think the space is worth to you and as much as you can afford with a minimum of £15 per month by standing order.
Member subs is what finances the Hackspace. We aim to develop the Norwich Hackspace Community and build up resources, and subs helps us to do that. Some members pay more than the minimum to help build the Hackspace better and faster.
On the other hand, if you are on a low income, and finance is a problem please let us know.
Membership will entitle you to free access to all sessions run by Norwich Hackspace, currently weekly on Mondays at Lion House, Muspole Street, Norwich. Once you are familiar with the Hackspace, you will be allowed anytime access. By joining you are agreeing to abide by Norwich Hackspace rules of use and code of conduct. Hackspace members will not be able to use equipment without an induction, any training necessary and agreement of competence.
It is our policy to provide equal opportunities without regard to race, colour, religion, national origin, gender, sexual preference, age, or disability. The core team of members reserve the right to refuse admission/terminate membership to anyone that is not abiding by the ethos of Norwich Hackspace. We will always try and resolve issues through negotiation and reason.
We collect data in the form of your membership application which gives us your personal details such as name, email address, interests, next of kin and any conditions or illnesses. We keep these details private to the admin team and will not share them with any other party. The details are only used to keep track of membership numbers, payments and on the rare occasions that we need to contact next of kin.
Currently we cannot accommodate under 18s as full members. If you are 16 plus and want to join please get in touch.
Communication within the group is through Slack (a team-based instant messaging app) or [email protected] which non-members can join so please sign up so that you will receive messages about the group and sessions. We use Slack between paid up members for internal discussions and you will be invited to the team Slack if you join - it is our key way of communicating important messages.
Before joining, please read the rules of engagement and code of conduct here
Please fill in the membership form here. You will then need to set up a standing order via your bank to finalise your membership.
Please note that Norwich Hackspace is group run by volunteer members and there are no employed staff. We review and adapt our systems as necessary. This means that membership terms may change as we get new equipment and get used to the space. We make decisions collectively as much as possible. Please join us to become part of the Hackspace community
